Korean American Coalition Peace Day event, Los Angeles, November 6
Debbie Sheen writes that the Korean American Coalition is hosting a Korea Peace Day Forum on November 6, featuring Helie Lee, author of "Still Life with Rice," Prof. Gi-Wook Shin, Stanford University, and Prof. Eui-Young Yu, California State University, Los Angeles. The event will take place at Yongsusan Restaurant, 950 S. Vermont Avenue, Los Angeles. There will be a light dinner at 6:30pm and the forum will start at 7:00pm. The forum will include a panel discussion, a question and answer session, and a video presentation.
 
Scripps College Peace Day event, November 6
Seung Hye Suh writes that Scripps College will screen the documentary The Game of Their Lives and have an informal panel discussion of professors and students afterward.
 
Brandeis University Peace Day event, November 6
Christina Song writes at the Brandeis University Korean Student Association will be screening the movie JSA (Joint Security Area) and will have a discussion following the movie.
 
KAWAWA Peace Day events in San Francisco, November 6
Min Paek writes that KAWAWA (the Korean American Women Artists and Writers Association) is sponsoring several events for Korea Peace Day on November 6. The events will take place in the Pavilion Room at the Cathedral Hill Hotel, 1101 Van Ness Avenue, San Francisco.

University of Washington Peace Day event
Clark Sorensen writes that University of Washington Korea Program will hold a panel discussion followed by a question and answer Session at 7-9:00 PM in Kane Hall 110 on November 6. Participants will be Clark Sorensen, Chair, Korea Studies Program, James Palais, Professor Emeritus of Korean History, Donald Hellmann, Professor of Japanese Politics, and Wonmo Dong, Korea Program Scholar in Residence.
 
George Washington University Peace Day event: "Remembrance and Reconciliation"
Young-Key Kim-Renaud writes that George Washington University is sponsoring a Korea Peace Day event on "Remembrance and Reconciliation" with Kirk W. Larsen of George Washington University, John Merrill of the US State Department, and Mike Mochizuki of George Washington University. Prof. Kim-Renaud is presiding. The event takes place from noon to 1:30pm on November 6 in the Lindner Family Commons Room, 1957 E St., NW, 6th floor (metro stop: Foggy Bottom-GWU, blue/orange line).
 
Peace Day forum at University of Wisconsin, Milwaukee, November 6
Nan Kim-Paik writes that the University of Wisconsin, Milwaukee is hosting Aimee Mi-Ae Gilbert, of the AmeriCares Foundation, who is lecturing on "Beyond the Famine: Humanitarian Partnerships in North Korea." The lecture takes place at noon, November 6, in Garland 104 (2441 E. Hartford Avenue, on the UWM campus).

Aimee Mi-Ae Gilbert most recently served as Director of Humanitarian Programs at the AmeriCares Foundation, where she is currently a consultant to its International Programs. Based inConnecticut, AmeriCares is the largest private international medical-aid humanitarian organization in the world. Ms. Gilbert will discuss the dilemmas, challenges and opportunities facing international organizations currently working in North Korea.
 
Bowdoin College Korean Culture Week
Paul Jung writes that Bowdoin College's Korean American Students' Association is hosting a "Korean Culture Week" during the first week of November. One of the main events is a North Korea Famine Drive.
 
Intercultural Institute of California Peace Day event, November 6
Hilary Finchum Sung writes that the Intercultural Institute of California in San Francisco is holding an event from 12:30pm to 2:00pm. The featured speaker is Patrick Hatcher of the Center for the Pacific Rim at the University of San Francisco, who will present his ideas concerning maintaining peace on the Korean peninsula followed by a roundtable discussion. The discussion will be in both Korean and English. This event is cosponsored by IIC and the University of San Francisco’s Center for the Pacific Rim.

Youn-Cha Shin Chey, the President of IIC, writes the following statement in support of Korea Peace Day: "IIC is proud to join with other academic institutions in concern for recent events on the Korean peninsula. Our lecture and roundtable will serve as a forum for community voices, and we hope that the voices of all participants throughout the world will be heard on this day. IIC’s participation in Korea Peace Day is a sign of our commitment to education in Korean studies and our understanding that scholars can impact the world beyond the walls of academia."
 
Chicago area Peace Day event, November 4
Yuh Ji-Yeon writes that on addition to Peace Day events at Northwestern University and the University of Chicago, there is a public forum on November 4 with Cheong Wooksik of the Civil Network for a Peaceful Korea in Seoul, Bruce Cumings of the University of Chicago, and Becky Belcore of the Young Koreans United, Chicago. It takes place at 6pm at North Park University, sponsored by the Crossroads Fund and the Korean American Resource and Cultural Center.
